What does Shiloh mean?
Where are we located?Shiloh Christian Upliftment Centre is a mission centre located in the informal settlement called Wallacedene, on the outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa. From the Shiloh Centre in Wallacedene, we serve and reach out to the adjoining informal settlement of Bloekombos, and Scottsville and Scottsdene two neighboring suburbs.
Our HistoryJesus performs miracles wherever a need is sensed and acted upon by committed individuals who realize the extend and scope of the responsibility undertaken. Our organization, born as the WALLACEDENE SOUP KITCHEN in May 1995 wished to express the love of Jesus Christ with every mug of soup to the children of Wallacedene and Bloekombos informal settlement area. The first donation of R185.00 towards our project was just about sufficient for the ingredients for the first day! Thus we continued trusting the Lord to provide one day at a time. The Lord started to literally extend our borders when the leaders of the squatter camp provided us with a portion of land from where we could work. A Committee was formed as interest in the work grew and more people, across denominational borders, became active and started working with us. Thus the SHILOH CHRISTIAN UPLIFTMENT CENTRE was established and is presently serving the broader community with the Gospel, a feeding scheme, a Day-care Centre, literacy classes, a Back To School-project, leadership-training and support-base for the destitute and Aid's infected. Our main target group; assisting the children of the less fortunate communities. Since the early days the soup and Evangelical outreach have spread to Bloekombos, an Informal Settlement in the surrounding area as well as Scottsdene & Scottsville. Small evangelistic groups have been established in these areas, with the assistance of the SHILOH CHRISTIAN UPLIFTMENT CENTER'S full-time ministers who pastor these new small groups. Consequently, the SHILOH CHRISTIAN UPLIFTMENT CENTRE was registered by the Department of Welfare in 1997 as a non-profit organization. We are also registered for tax deduction on donations - only in South Africa
