Due to the gross animal neglect in the Squatter camps, and no animal hospital in the Northern Suburbs, we really need a volunteer or two who will be able to help us for a period of one year to establish a proper Animal Care project in Wallacedene & Bloekombos.

This will mean that the person/s will be available to give their time at least once a week to go into the Squatter Camp with us to teach and assist people in looking after their pets. Lots of stray hungry and sick animals dies a sad and horrific death and needs to in conjunction with the SPCA be picked up and taken care of.

The biggest need is educational. What comes as natural about our pets to us, does not apply in these communities. People and children need to be enlightened about the care and responsibility about their animals. There is hardly any relationship to animals which robs people of the joy they can experience owning a pet. But once people’s minds are changed with the way they relate to an animal they even treat the children with more love...

It is not all sad. The reward comes when an abused child and an abused animal sort of heals one another....!

I believe if you can teach a child to have respect for the life of an animal, he will grow up having respect for living things in general. Maybe we are overlooking a wonderful means of reaching the youth to have respect for any life, and can prevent the youth of these communities to kill at an age of 12 years old, as we’ve seen in the news recently.
 
This is a great means to get to know the people and build relationships to eventually speak to them about the God that we serve.
