Shiloh CIA(Community In Action)Food Provider
Background
From a processing base in Brackenfell, Cape Town, food reaches needy people at  65 locations in the informal settlements of Cape Town.  A huge number of meals -- 63,000 per month - are prepared and distributed. Currently we are planning to upgrade to 100,000 meals a month.

Twenty-five soup kitchens and some other local food providing outlets receive the meals and allocate them to those in need.

The office and administrative staff for the feeding programme are located at Logos Church in Bellville.  The Brackenfell kitchens have a workforce of six cooks, a collection and delivery driver.  Raw food is received free on a daily basis from participating farmers and shops.  There are four industrial freezing rooms, a cooler room, six 220-litre cookers and the oversized utensils essential for processing vegetables, meat and rice in large quantities.  A strict standard of nutrition and food hygiene is maintained.  Cooked food is stored in the form of frozen blocks of stew that can be transported, stored and re-heated at the point of allocation.

Intention
The food is not only nutritious and filling for people who are hungry and often in ill-health, it is enjoyable and adds variety to their overall diet.  The food supplement programme enables Shiloh's upliftment and evangelical programmes to focus on their ministries knowing that the hungry in their midst receive provision.
